On Thursday May 1st, 2003, the Haitian Students Association at Pace University hosted their first annual Haitian Students Conference in an effort to bring about awareness of the problems and issues in the Haitian community and address what we as students and community leaders can do together to alleviate these problems.

Topics discussed were on politics, health, economic development and social issues. Along with panels, workshops, lectures and facilitated discussions led by various professionals and leaders in their fields.

This event was done to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Haitian Flag Day with close partnership with the 18 Mai committee, who based in Brooklyn,as part of their Haitian Cultural Awareness Week events.

With the partnership of these groups and organizations, that helps to build a strong lasting relationship that will be long lasting and serves as a network event for those working for the betterment of the community.

This event was not only for awareness purposes, but also a way to begin to devise strategies and plans for the future that we, living in the Diaspora can work on and one-day accomplish.

The panels were followed by the Kompa Festival with the popular group "Zin" and DJ Dream Team.
