The Haitian Club at Rockland Community College (RCC) By Fritz D Alcindor
The Haitian Club is currently with more than 50 members meets every Thursday from 12:30 Pm to 1:30Pm. The Haitian Club is the oldest club at RCC, and it has been since 1985. Their meeting discussions range from cultural affairs to politics, and some other issues related to Haiti and the college life. For Edy Sopin, the club president, his experience with the Haitian Students is always a very good one. Eddy told Akolad.com that the Haitian Club enables them to get together all the Haitian students around the campus, and helps to increase the cultural awareness from the students. The Haitian Club holds many events to commemorate the Haitian Heritage at RCC. Last December 2000, the club organized a During the meeting Vital Nelson, the Student Senate President at Rockland Community College (R.C.C) talked to his fellow Haitians Students about the importance to have a " Haitian Heritage Scholarship " at RCC.
