National Association for the Advancement of Haitian Descendents (NAAHD )
For Immediate Release

New York , New York - There is no other choice but to live together forever with Dominicans, however Haitians should be treated with respect and dignity in the Dominican Republic.

Haiti - Dominican Republic

Dominican President Rafael Leonidas Trujillo during three days beginning October 2, 1937, 20,000 Haitians in the DR were assassinated, their bodies dumped into the tragically named Riviére Massacre.

Even today physical abuses and Haitians' rights violations are continuing under the leadership of President Leonel Fernandez. This Year alone they have deported more than 10,000 Haitians by force and humiliations. On October 2, Dominicans set on fire and burned to death 3 young Haitians and shot and killed 2 more. Dominican Government gives citizenship status to anyone born in the country except Haitians, because of the color of their skin.

We are inviting anyone who understands the necessity to build a respectful and good relationship between Haitians and Dominicans to join forces with us on September 30th on Broadway and 7th Ave (Times Square) at 3 PM to demand that:

1. The Dominican government should publicly recognize, in accordance with Article 11 of the Dominican Constitution, the Dominican-born children of Haitian migrant workers are Dominican citizens.

2. The Dominican government should provide identity documents to each of the many thousands of Dominican individuals of Haitian descent who have been unable to obtain proof of Dominican citizenship.

3. The Dominican Government should investigate and bring to justice those who are responsible for the 3 Haitians burned to death on August 16, 2005.

4. The Dominican Government should protect the rights of Haitian students in Dominican Republic. We cannot change their living conditions right now but, we can be the voice for their security, justice and good treatment.
