L'Haitien Modele is an annual pageant
event started back in 1999 by Jean Clotaire Silencieux
founder and director of Tele
Citronnelle and TCS-TV a 24 hours Haitian Satellite
channel based in Orange, New Jersey.
The event featured males of Haitian descent between
the age of 18 and 30 years old with no criminal record
among other predetermined criteria. Additionally, contestants
compete on multiple aspects such as artistic talent
(dance, singing, and poetry), stage presence, public
speaking, and opinion on controversial subjects. As
a result, contestants have to go through months of rigorous
preparations to refine their skills and talents.
In the 6th annual edition of L'Haitien Modele hosted
by Jennyne
Maellard and Jude
"Roupy" Derosier, four talented contestants competed
head to head for the ultimate grand prize of a crown,
$2,000.00 cash, a trip to France, and including other
prizes. The men came out on stage and displayed their
special talents in front of the eager crowd. They also
have to show the fine moves on the dance floor with
the female partner of their choice, and strutted on
the runway in the finest outfits from well known local
fashion designers.
L'Haitien Modele is more than just a competition for
a title, but also a chance to make a positive change.
As Jerry Senesca the 2006
L' Haitien Modele winner said "I wanted to participate
in L' Haitien Modele 2006 just to make a positive difference
as a young male in the Haitian community. My goal is
to decrease the negative sigma attached to the community."
In
addition to the young gentlemen battling for the title
of L' Haitien Modele, entertainment was also part of
the festivities. As a result, 2005 Miss.Citronnelle
participants did a stellar dance performance while Daphney
Dorlus captivated the entire audience throughout the
whole night with her beautiful voice. Also, directly
from New York the popular Haitian dance group "Explosif
Dancers "rose to the occasion with explosive dancing
moves which left the audience in a frenzy. Moreover,
the night ended with an after party by the new group
Nu-Vice.
When asked how one should feel to be the 2006 L' Haitien
Modele, Senesca said : " Man, I can't even tell you
how I feel…deep inside of me I' m speechless, but tomorrow
when I wake up and see the trophy I will probably think
about it…"
Akolad.com congratulates the 2006 L' Haitien Modele
Senesca along with the other contestants: James
Destin, Jean
Samuel, and Yves
Stevens Estriplet for their great work, talent,
and effort they displayed during the 6th annual edition
of the event.
